Accountant Job At The Terrace Kitchen Ltd

Job Overview

  • We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant with a minimum of three years of experience in the hospitality industry to manage and oversee our financial operations. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy of financial data, compliance with local regulations, and the smooth running of financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Manage the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Oversee cash flow management and ensure adequate funding for operations.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process invoices, payments, and receipts accurately and on time.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable transactions and resolve discrepancies.

Banking and Reconciliation:

  • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Liaise with banks and financial institutions for operational needs.

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and submit statutory deductions, including VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and withholding tax, ensuring compliance with Kenyan regulations.
  • Handle KRA audits and inquiries effectively.

Payroll Processing:

  • Oversee payroll preparation and ensure timely and accurate payment to employees.
  • Maintain employee records related to salaries and benefits.

Inventory & Cost Control:

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with procurement and operations teams to optimize expenditure.

Internal Controls and Auditing:

  • Implement and maintain effective internal control systems.
  • Prepare for and assist in external and internal audits.

Financial Reporting:

  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on financial data analysis.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with local laws, hospitality industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Identify financial risks and propose mitigation strategies.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with departmental heads to monitor and optimize financial performance.
  • Support the management team with strategic financial planning.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA (K) or ACCA certification is required.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of accounting experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Familiarity with Kenyan tax laws and regulations.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.

Honesty

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of hospitality operational processes is an added advantage.
