OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
- The Head of Human Resources will lead and provide strategic direction for all human resource functions and operations across AKH,K clusters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop HR strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organizational strategic thinking and direction; and establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.
- Support management by providing HR advice, counsel, and decisions, analyzing information and situations.
- Review, craft, update and implement HR policies for the AKHK cluster, ensuring alignment with the Kenyan legal framework and in collaboration with the CEO and Global Head of HR.
- Develop and implement a robust Staff Qualification & Education plan.
- Develop and execute the training calendar, identifying and addressing training needs across the AKHK cluster.
- Develop and implement training plans for onboarding as well as expansion, coordinating with departments, the T&D Committee, and the Medical Director’s office.
- Handle legal cases related to HR, collaborating closely with internal and external legal teams to ensure effective resolution.
- Deal effectively with union matters including negotiations on collective agreements to ensure industrial harmony.
- Spearhead initiatives that foster positive employee relations, workforce engagement and an inclusive work culture.
- Conduct benchmarking exercises and work with the Job Evaluation Committee to ensure jobs are regularly updated.
- Develop annual HR priorities with associated budget in conjunction with the Heads of Department (HoDs), the CEO and the Global Head of HR.
- Work with line managers on HR budgeting and planning exercises, under the guidance of the CEO and CFO.
- Engage with local and international recruiting portals and agencies for the recruitment of skilled professionals.
- Conduct the annual performance review process, and train HoDs to enhance their performance evaluation capabilities.
- Be the champion for Safeguarding and work to build and enhance an organizational culture that promotes staff safety and well-being.
- Coordinate the employment of expatriate staff, ensuring they possess the necessary permits, passes, and visas as required by law, and liaise with AKDN-Nairobi and the Immigration Department to facilitate this process.
- Manage HR records in accordance with local labor laws and best practices, maintaining the PeopleSoft Human Resource Systems and implementing strong controls to safeguard staff data.
- Support compliance to quality initiatives, not limited to JCIA and SQE standards.
- Establish annual objectives, in collaboration with the subordinates, seek and provide regular feedback and ensure performance appraisals are completed in a sensitive, collaborative and timely way.
- Organize resources and time to enable employee development within the context of organizational and individual goals.
- Manage the workload, both for the team, and for individuals, as appropriate.
- Address any conflicts that arise sensitively, and in a timely manner.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management
- Professional Certification in HR
- Over 10 years’ relevant work experience
- Member of IHRM professional body
- Conversant with Labour Laws, Labour relations and Institutions in Kenya
- Well-developed management skills including problem solving, negotiation and coordination skills and with the ability to apply knowledge and analysis creatively to the resolution of practical problems
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, orally and in writing
- Consultative and collaborative, engaging effectively and co-creating innovative solutions with key stakeholders
- Results-oriented and deadline-driven with demonstrated organization skills and the ability to multi-task and assume changing responsibilities
- Strong integrity and intellectual humility
